New Distinction Hotel Now Open In Invercargill

The 100% New Zealand owned and operated Distinction Hotels Group continues to blossom with the announcement that owner Geoff Thomson has purchased the Menzies Building in Invercargill’s Lower Esk Street. The former government building will be transformed into an elegant 4.5 star, 150-room hotel, opening in August 2025.

All 150 guest studios and spacious suites will feature enhanced soundproofing and luxury cloud-like beds, synonymous with those highly rated at Distinction Dunedin Hotel. These features along with warm ambient lighting and blackout curtains will ensure a restful night’s sleep. For added convenience, all rooms will include a microwave, refrigerator & washer/dryer. Sleek ensuite bathrooms will be outfitted with spacious walk-in showers featuring both standard and rain shower heads accompanied by complimentary Distinction toiletries, saved from going to landfill through The Hotel Weka recycling program. Executive Suites will also feature a freestanding bathtub.

Distinction Invercargill Hotel will also be home to the stylish Retreat Restaurant & Bar. Set in warm and welcoming spaces, a gathering place loved by locals and hotel guests alike. Private dining rooms also available for more intimate functions and occasions.

Free unlimited WiFi will be available throughout the hotel, helping to make working away from home or the office that much easier.

The group’s Invercargill born owner is looking forward to bringing a Distinction Hotel to his hometown.
