Murihiku Māori Tours

SIGNATURE MURIHIKU TOUR
3 hours (including pick up and drop off) 

Travel through the landscapes of Murihiku, with a close-up focus on Bluff.  You will experience a premium small-group tour guided by mana whenua. The guided portion of the experience is 2.5 hours, with the full tour taking 3 hours to include pick-up and drop-off.

This journey is shaped by the whenua / land itself — the tides, seasons, and histories that have defined Awarua for generations. You’ll visit significant sites, learn about early Māori settlement and industry, hear stories of people and place, and experience Māori culture through through connection, and conversation, shared naturally as part of the journey.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE:
Tour highlights include:
• Stirling Point Signpost — an iconic marker of journeys and meeting points. It’s more than an quick photo opportunity for locals.
• Motupōhue / Bluff Hill — a site of deep cultural significance and sweeping coastal views. Important landmarks for Māori will also be pointed out.
• Awarua Harbour — a landscape rich in history, ecology, industry, and ancestral narratives.  For generations, this harbour has been the welcoming doorway into the region.
• You’ll also pick up simple Māori words, helpful Māori pronunciation tips, and an understanding of how the local Māori tribal structure works — all shared in an easy, relaxed way as you travel together.
